Tabbed browsing refers to use of internet browsers which allow multiple tabs to be opened, each showing different pages. As of 2006 most web browsers support tabbed browsing, Opera was the first tabbed browsing interface, followed later by NetCaptor, later by IBrowse in 1999, then , Mozilla in 2001, Konqueror in 2003, and Safari in 2003. Google Chrome, released in 2008, also has tabbed browsing capabilities.

This allowes users to utilize the time between the complete opening of two or more different web pages. Users can open new tabs using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+T, or they can just go to the File menu, and click "New Tab". Later, Internet Explorer also included this feature.
