Stephen or Steven ( ) is an English masculine first name, derived from the Greek name Στέφανος (Stephanos) meaning "crown, garland", in turn from the Greek word στέφανος (wreath, crown, honour, reward). The use of the noun was first recorded in Homer's Iliad.
