Scranton is a city in the northeastern part of Pennsylvania, United States. It is the county seat of Lackawanna CountyGR: 6 and the largest principal city in the Scranton-Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania Metropolitan Statistical Area. According to figures released by the United States Census Bureau in 2000, the city had a total population of 76,415 (2007 estimate: 72,485). Scranton is Pennsylvania's seventh most populous city after Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Allentown, Erie, Reading, and Bethlehem.
