What is Response to Intervention?
Response to Intervention (abbreviations: RTI or RtI) is an educational methodology that has become popular un he United States in recent years - especially in reading instruction in the elementary grades. The RTI approach seeks to identify students who are having difficulty mastering the skills and knowledge in their curriculum. It depends heavily on clear, measurable curriculum standards and on data analysis. Students are identified as being below required achievement levels and they are scheduled for additional instructional time in core subjects. The goal is to see them "respond" to that additional instructional time (which is often more structured and in smaller groups than general content instruction). Response is measured by collecting data on achievement. In addition to its role in remediating students who fall behind on curriculum goals, RTI als plays a role in most states in identifying students who may have educational disabilities. The failure of a student to respond to this additional instruction is viewed as evidence of a disability.Weblinks for Response To Intervention
