Pothos is one of the most well known houseplants in the world. They are beautiful, hardy, and easy to care for too.

This popular plant is also known by the name of Devil’s Ivy. Its botanical name is a matter of debate. Some call it Scindapsus and some call it Epipremium aurem. Whatever you call it, it’s a beautiful and easy to care for addition to any houseplant collection. Here’s a look at the different types available:

Golden Pothos: This is perhaps the most well known of all the Pothos varieties. It can be found in most malls and public spaces. It has glossy green leaves splashed with yellow and can grow up to 6 feet long. Like all varieties of Pothos, this is a vine which is happy trailing from a hanging basket or climbing up a moss covered pole. Keep in bright spot away from direct sunlight. While it can survive in a low lit area, the variegation will fade. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Allow it to dry out slightly between waterings, Cuttings can be taken at anytime and usually root well in water. Take care to avoid drafts as Pothos is quite sensitive to sudden drops in temperature.

Marble Queen Pothos: This is very similar to the Golden Pothos, except its leaves are splashed with pure white instead of yellow. This makes for a very striking display. Like the Golden Pothos, it is happy in a hanging basket or in a pot with a moss covered pole to climb up. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged and keep it in a brightly lit area away from direct sunlight. It also roots easily in water.

Neon Pothos: This variety is harder to find than Golden and Marble Queen, but it is worth the search. Its name comes from its leaves, which are a bright lime green. Its habits and growing conditions are the same as Golden and Marble Queen

Satin Pothos: This is another harder to find variety but it is also one of the most beautiful. The Satin Pothos has deep green leaves with a satiny finish and splashes of silver. Its leaves are smaller than the other types, but it is also a vine that looks lovely in a hanging basket or climbing over the edge of a pot. This is also the only variety of Pothos known to flower in the home environment.

Jade Pothos: This is an uncommon variety that is often confused with the Heart Leaf Philodendron. It is simply a Golden or Marble Queen that has been allowed to lose its variation. The leaves are glossy and pure green.
