ooma is a consumer telecommunications company based in Palo Alto, CA that has hired Ashton Kutcher as their creative director. Ooma's product is a "VoIP in a box" device using peer-to-peer VoIP technology that lets users make free, unlimited long distance domestic calls in the US for life, after the user purchases the answering-machine-like device, called ooma Hub. The service, launched in September of 2007, is different from other VoIP services in that it is paid for upfront through purchasing of the ooma Hub, rather than monthly fees or a term contract.
