Ocotillo Wells is an unincorporated community in San Diego County, California that lies along State Route 78 (SR78) three miles (5 km) west of the Imperial County line. The name is official since 1962 when it was adopted for federal use by the Board of Geographic Names. A federally-recognized variant name, Ocotillo, is easily confused with the Imperial County community of the same name. The community is defined as being at AMSL elevation. NAD27 latitude and longitude are listed at on the "Borrego Mountain, California" 7.5-minute quadrangle (map).
