3D ultrasound is a form of ultrasound which produces 3D images by detecting ultrasound signals from different angles and reconstructing them to form a 3D image. This is very similar to the way your brain takes the slightly different visual signals from your right eye and your left eye to construct a 3-dimensional image in your mind.

Although 3D ultrasounds were designed to be used for medical diagnostic purposes, they are most commonly used commercially in pregnant women to see the baby before birth. other medical uses include detecting fetal anomalies, especially congenital heart disease in the fetus.
